Extremism is Too Subjective
There is no objective standard by which men can be judged as extremists. Whatever standard we can come up with will be subjective. Church discipline is serious business, and only to be used in the most serious cases. We must have objective, sure standards. Opinions about extremism are neither objective nor sure.
As far as I can tell, the Biblical authors did not spend much ink warning against extremism. Rather, they warned about immorality and heresy. These are the problems that church discipline must combat.
The problem is not that some carry things to far, but that we do not carry them far enough. Carefully applied, the Bible will keep us from errors on the left, the right, and any other direction. Continue reading
